While having dinner at one of our favourite local restaraunts we noticed that multiple screens played the same channels or even no channels at all. As small business owners ourselves, we realized a need for a more affordable advertising platform. T.V and radio was often too expensive to maintain annually and we wanted to come up with another option, utilizing existing screens within establishments by making an "ad loop" for local businesses. Placing them front and center to highlight and feature small businesses while people enjoy relaxing and dining.
Our goal was to figure out how to lower the barrier to entry of local advertising by building our own platform that we could remotely operate. We formed a small team and got to work. We built our platform and started networking with local establishments to host, and then small local businesses to ultimately launch Merge Local.
